Its Origins

Bruno Rocca’s parents bought the estate's current property in the 1950‘s when they moved to Rabaja from Barbaresco. Bruno took over the estate when his father died in 1978. As a consummate modernist, Bruno uses modern technology to produce wines with tremendous intensity of fruit balanced by the characteristic Piemontese structure and a judicious use of oak. His wines look, smell and taste like real Nebbiolo and unlike an increasing number of other Piemonte producers, he never feels the need to add a certain extra something to deepen the colour or round out the palate. Bruno started bottling in 1978 and since then has risen to the top of the quality tree in this area, producing a Barbaresco and the single vineyard Rabaja Barbaresco. His daughter, Luisa now works with him at the estate as the marketing manager.

What The Critics Say

96/100 Vinous, Antonio Galloni

“The 2019 Barbaresco Riserva Rabajà is another captivating wine in this range from the Rocca family. Bright and vibrant the 2019 possesses terrific energy from start to finish. This tense, nervy Riserva is going to need a few years to be at its finest. Then again, it is Rabajà. Like the best Rabajàs, the 2019 needs time to come together. Bright red fruit, cedar, tobacco, spice and vibrant saline notes race across the palate and onto the nervy, crystalline finish. This is impressive. What a beautiful wine this is." Drink 2025 - 2039

17.5+/20 JancisRobinson.com, Walter Speller

“Barbaresco. Lustrous and just mid ruby. The liquorice is now much more stony, a little like crushed shells. Perfumed but not sweet on the nose, slow to open up and changes all the time. Perfumed dark fruit and raspberry and a hint of shoe polish. Supple suave red-fruit palate with the perfect dose of acidity and finely ground tannins that grow on the palate. Amazing balance of juicy fruit and firm but fine structure. (WS)." Drink 2024 - 2036
