Another great vintage for Sacred Hill's top Merlot blend. Crafted by Sacred Hill's expert team, this classic Bordeaux style offers dark berries and spicy complexity in layers of deliciousness. With the structure to cellar but a lot to offer now glass or decanter, this is seriously good stuff for the price. Among the last vintages of this label. Grab this and don't wait!

Its Origins

Back in 1986, David and Mark Mason, with friend and winemaker Tony Bish, began with a simple philosophy of making more wine than they could drink, and sharing the rest. They had the perfect place to make it happen, under the shade of Puketapu (sacred hill), along the white, volcanic cliffs and river land gravels of the Dartmoor Valley in Hawke’s Bay. They were precious days by the river with friends, family and food. Sacred Hill is recognised as one of New Zealand's leading, multi award winning wineries. Focusing on the production of premium 'handcrafted' varietal wines the company's estate vineyards are now located in New Zealand's leading grape growing regions of Marlborough, Hawke's Bay and Central Otago.

What The Critics Say

95/100 Bob Campbell MW

"Ripe, berry-ish wine with a lovely mellow texture. More vinous than fruity. Very appealing wine that clearly benefitted from a favourable vintage. Should develop well with bottle age. 14 JUN 2022." Drink 2022 - 2030

95/100 The Real Review, Stephen Wong

"Dense nose of concentrated spiced fruit berry coulis. Plush palate with sweet fruit and oak. Drying tannins appearing early on the mid-palate. A touch of alcohol peeking through, but otherwise, well balanced for a generous, decadent style. Ripe chocolatey tannins, fruit right to the end. Grippy at this stage but not overly extracted 14 JUN 2022." Drink 2022 - 2030

93/100 James Suckling

"A lovely nose of graphite, crushed stone, blackcurrants and blackberries. Medium- to full-bodied with silky, slightly chewy tannins. Succulent and vibrant on the palate with generous length and an evolving savory character. Transparent and clear. Delicious. A blend of merlot, cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc and malbec. Best after 2024."
