2020 Pegasus Bay Prima Donna Pinot Noir
Grape
Pinot Noir
Its Origins
Located in arguably New Zealand's most exciting wine region of North Canterbury (more specifically, Waipara), albeit sparsely scattered with wine estates it is at the forefront of interesting and unique wines in NZ. This is due in part to a fabulous free-draining, well protected terroir. Pegasus Bay is run by the Donaldson family who were pioneers in the region and have been involved with local grape growing and winemaking since the 1970's. The whole family are involved in the process from grape to bottle, and a deep respect for the land, with a long term view towards vine and soil health typifies the Donaldson Family's approach to grape growing. Pegasus Bay is an accredited member of the NZWG sustainable viticulture program and are firm believers of using natural methods to combat pests and diseases rather than the application of unnecessary pesticides and herbicides.
What The Critics Say
96/100 James Suckling
"Freshly sliced ripe strawberry with hints of rose stem, baking spices, and bark follow through to a medium body with integrated tannins and a fine and polished finish. Racy and complex. Classy. Drinkable and appreciable now, but it will deliver so much more in three to five years. Screw cap."
96/100 Bob Campbell MW (2019 vintage)
"A flagship wine only produced in exceptional years such as 2004, 2005, 2006, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2019. Made from a selection of the best barrels from the oldest, ungrafted vines in the vineyard. A mellow, elegant wine with floral/red rose, dark cherry, plum, dried herb and spicy oak flavours. It has a reputation for ageing well " Drink 2022 - 2040
