2021 Paritua Hawkes Bay Red Blend
Grape
Usually a Merlot-dominant blend with Cabernet sauvignon and Cabernet franc
Its Origins
Paritua Vineyards is located on Maraekakaho Road in the heart of the Hawkes Bay 'Triangle’ District, one of New Zealand's most diverse regions for the production of both premium red and white grapes. The vineyard Paritua as a tribute to the Paritua Stream, which meanders gently through the land. It is a name that also acknowledges the connection with the land and the people of New Zealand. Inspiration for the name 'Stone Paddock' came from the free-draining, stony soils that make up Paritua Vineyards. The stones featured on the Stone Paddock label were gathered from the Syrah and Cabernet blocks. In July 2008, talented winemaker Jason Stent joined the Paritua team, working over 120 acres of vineyards.
What The Critics Say
93/100 Cameron Douglas MS
"From a blend of Merlot and the two Cabernets delivers a bouquet of roasted plums and blackberries, there’s a mix of olives and herbs, a savoury quality and dry stone earth suggestions. Still very youthful, firm and dry with tannins and acidity delivering a solid frame around dark fruits and barrel spices. Quite lengthy on the finish with persistent flavours. Drink 2026 - 2034+
91/100 The Real Review, Stephen Wong MW
"Concentrated, dense sweet blackcurrant, olive and Black Doris plum wreathed in smoky oak. Chewy, bittersweet tannins and a plush, ripe palate of mid-weight savoury, almost salty flavours. Fair concentration and some interest indicating potential complexity on the back-palate. Closed and unyielding currently, this needs to relax and has enough fruit to develop in the mid-term." Drink 2027 - 2034
