2021 Sandalford Margaret River Shiraz
Grape
Shiraz
Its Origins
The establishment of Sandalford Wines in 1840 coincided with both the first European settlement at the Colony of Perth and birth of Western Australia's world famous wine industry. In 1970, the Company was one of three initial pioneers of the Margaret River wine region (275km south of Perth and today considered by many as one of the world's truly great premium wine growing appellations) when the first vines were planted at its 300 hectare vineyard located there.
What The Critics Say
Winemaker notes on current vintage
"Bright red fruit flavours and savoury spices. Mocha and toasty oak flavours evolve with the fruit flavours adding to the many layers within this wine. Soft acidity and fine-grained tannin provide length to the finish. This medium bodied, elegant, cool climate style Shiraz drinks well in its youth, but can be cellared for up to 10 years with confidence."
93/100 Halliday's Wine Companion, Jeni Port (2018 vintage)
"Purple-red. Welcoming and far from shouty, just laying Margaret River fruit before you with little flash. Glossy black and blue fruits leading spice, white pepper. Takes a turn for the aniseed, chocolate and bush mint that completes a pretty tasty package tied nicely with fine tannins." Drink by 2030
Rated a 'Red 5 Star Winery' by James Halliday
Rated Red 5 Star in 2017, 2016, 2015, 2014, 2013, 2012, and 2011. "Sandalford is an outstanding winery regularly producing wines of exemplary quality and typicity.” "Sandalford is one of Australia's oldest and privately owned wineries. In 1970 it moved beyond its original Swan Valley base, purchasing a substantial property in Margaret River that is now the main source of its premium grapes"
