Its Origins

Reydan and Roger Weiss first fell in love with the beauty of Te Awanga when visiting from Germany in 2001. Together they envisaged owning a state-of-the-art winery, merging the traditional values of wine making with an innovative approach and contemporary style to produce exceptional wines to savour and enjoy. With the majestic elephant as their namesake and nestled against a backdrop of rolling hillsides, Elephant Hill spans over 25 hectares of vineyards producing classical, aromatics whites and world-class reds, helmed by winemaker Steve Skinner.

What The Critics Say

97/100 Wine Orbit, Sam Kim

"Tightly structured and exquisitely expressed, showing lemon pith, Gala apple, nectarine and almond meal characters on the nose with a hint of vanilla nuance. The concentrated palate is brilliantly focused and seamlessly flowing with a finely textured mouthfeel backed by splendidly pitched acidity. Gorgeously elegant and refined, making it sensually appealing and alluring. At its best: 2026 to 2036. $95.00. www.elephanthill.co.nz. Oct 2024." Drink 2026 - 2036

95/100 Raymond Chan Reviews, Candice Chow

"Bright, even, pale yellow-gold. The nose is elegant and complex, with aromas of roasted hazelnut and flint overlying stonefruit, citrus, delicate spice and minerals. Medium-full bodied, aromas of lemon, lemon sherbet, pink grapefruit pith entwined with peach, apricot, smoke flint, fine spice and minerals. A chalky mineral texture flows effortlessly with zesty, taut acidity; layering flinty and toasty details enrich the lightly creamy mouthfeel. Salomé Chardonnay is complex with concentrated flavours and a rich, long finish. Match with roasted guinea fowl and pork chop over the next 8+ years. 98% fruit from Te Awanga and 2% from Bridge Pa, 100% handpicked, whole bunch pressed and naturally fermented to 13.5% alc, then partial MLF. Aged 11 months in French oak barrels, 62% new oak, and a further 7 months on light lees. 300 cases produced. 19/20 pts (95 pts) Nov 2024 RRP $95." Drink 2024 - 2032+
