2023 Elephant Hill Sea Viognier
Grape
Viognier
Its Origins
Reydan and Roger Weiss first fell in love with the beauty of Te Awanga when visiting from Germany in 2001. Together they envisaged owning a state-of-the-art winery, merging the traditional values of wine making with an innovative approach and contemporary style to produce exceptional wines to savour and enjoy. With the majestic elephant as their namesake and nestled against a backdrop of rolling hillsides, Elephant Hill spans over 25 hectares of vineyards producing classical, aromatics whites and world-class reds, helmed by winemaker Steve Skinner.
What The Critics Say
94/100 Wine Orbit, Sam Kim (2022 vintage)
"Stylish and elegant, the wine shows ripe apricot, fig, citrus peel and oatmeal aromas on the nose, followed by a succulent palate offering excellent weight and fine flow. Splendidly framed by juicy acidity, making it wonderfully structured and persistent."
93/100 Raymond Chan Reviews, Candice Chow (2022 vintage)
"Bright, even, pale yellow with a light green sheen. The nose is soft, with aromas of citrus, apricot, peach and subtle spice. Medium-full bodied, aromas of peach and apricot melded with white petals, lemon and ginger. Stony minerals adorn the texture; acid tension persists with fruit and spice to a crisp, long finish. This Viognier possesses tension and a mineral core; spices elevate the finish."
