Among the best village Pouilly-Fuisse being made. Domaine Ferret offers a Burgundian Chardonnay with a harmony, weight and minerality that punches well above its price. From limestone and granite-rich soils under the Macon's famous Solutre escarpment, the vines were planted between 1947 and 2018. This label offers a balanced picture of this superb estate's potential, which rivals the best of the Cote de Beaune for a fraction of the price.

Its Origins

Founded in 1840, Domaine Ferret is located in the heart of the most famous "climats" of the Fuissé amphitheatre. A precise knowledge of the region's most remarkable terroirs forms the basis of the parcel by parcel vinification for which the Domaine is renowned: in particular, the classification of Tête de Cru and Hors Classe were established by Jeanne Ferret. It was entirely down to her that the wines were bottled at the Domaine - at a time when this was certainly not standard practice. Her daughter, Colette, followed in her footsteps, developing the Domaine's reputation for excellence by focusing on the maturation period. When Louis Jadot acquired the 18-hectare property in 2008, its aim was to continue working in the tradition of excellence established by the Ferrets. Today, Audrey Braccini is in charge of maintaining the property's high standards.

What The Critics Say

Top 100 wines in The Wine Merchant

"Keenly balanced, well-made, complex white Burgundy. With a unique blend of strains dating back to different eras, from 1947 to 2019, each bottle of this wine tells a story of more than 70 years of winemaking tradition. Plots, such as Les Vernays, dating back to 1955, add their distinctive character to this unique selection. In Fuissé, the vines are rooted in west-facing granitic soils, fusing a variety of components, from schists to rhyolitic tuffs, while to the east Jurassic limestones and marls predominate, with scattered touches of clay. Vinification is carried out with precision, fermenting grapes from the granitic soils in vats and barrels, while the marl and limestone plots, including the prestigious 1ers Crus "Vers Cras" and "Les Vignes Blanches", are aged in barrels. for 10 months, followed by an additional 8 months in vats to refine its character. Bottling took place in February 2024, capturing the essence of this exceptional year."

90-91/100 Burghound, Allen Meadows

"Note: from Fuissé fruit that includes 10% 1er Crus. Ripe and reasonably fresh aromas are comprised by notes of essence of pear, apple and lemon rind. There is fine intensity to the attractively textured, even sleek, middleweight flavors that exhibit sneaky good length on the citrus zest-inflected finale."

92/100 Charles Curtis MW (2021 Vintage)

"This delightful wine boasts a good concentration of ripe pear and lime peel on the nose with hints of butter, spice, and some smoky reductive notes. There is a pleasant concentration on the palate, with balanced acidity that leads the wine to an elegant, lingering finish. This flagship cuvée is an assemblage of many parcels (including some declassified premier crus) that total over 9.5 hectares. The grapes are gently pressed before fermentation in tank and ageing in used casks. This wine is a beautiful entry point to a powerful range."
