2022 Ferret Pouilly Fuisse Tete de Cru Clos Prouges
Grape
Chardonnay
Its Origins
Founded in 1840, Domaine Ferret is located in the heart of the most famous "climats" of the Fuissé amphitheatre. A precise knowledge of the region's most remarkable terroirs forms the basis of the parcel by parcel vinification for which the Domaine is renowned: in particular, the classification of Tête de Cru and Hors Classe were established by Jeanne Ferret. It was entirely down to her that the wines were bottled at the Domaine - at a time when this was certainly not standard practice. Her daughter, Colette, followed in her footsteps, developing the Domaine's reputation for excellence by focusing on the maturation period. When Louis Jadot acquired the 18-hectare property in 2008, its aim was to continue working in the tradition of excellence established by the Ferrets. Today, Audrey Braccini is in charge of maintaining the property's high standards.
What The Critics Say
94/100 Decanter, Charles Curtis MW
"This clos in the village of Fuissé has produced a wine of marvelous concentration in 2022, with aromas of passionfruit and pomelo and hints of hazelnut and spice. The texture is dense but not heavy; some well-integrated oak aromas carry through on the palate. The grapes are from a two-hectare parcel purchased by Jadot after they bought Ferret in 2005; it was excluded from premier cru status due to a lack of historical credentials (according to the INAO) but tastes equivalent in quality to me. The Domaine also treats it as a premier cru."
90-93/100 Burghound, Allen Meadows
"Slightly riper yet still fresh aromas offer up notes of exotic tea, spice, pear liqueur and slightly more prominent wood. As is usually the case, there is better volume to the more energetic medium weight flavors that exude evident minerality on the balanced, long and delicious finale. This could use better depth, but the potential to develop it over time certainly appears to be present."
92/100 Inside Burgundy, Jasper Morris MW
"A fine bold lemon yellow. A little more mineral on the nose. The marl soil has held up well through the long dry summer. The Clos des Prouges has retained its tension, with slightly more white fruit here, good acidity, a little citron confit, and an extra kick at the back of the palate. Very graceful and with length. 13% alcohol. Drink from 2027-2032."
