2022 Quinta da Fonte Souto Florao White
Grape
Usually 80% Arinto and 20% Verdelho
Its Origins
Symington began when Andrew James Symington established himself in Porto in 1882. His subsequent acquisition of three important Port houses Warres, Dows, and Grahams became a legacy passing to his three sons, while many further acquisitions accrued a family portfolio of top quality estates whose practices and reputations have endured until the present day. "The 207-hectare Quinta da Fonte Souto was acquired by the Symington family in 2017 and is their first vineyard outside the Douro. Lying on the slopes of the São Mamede Range at an elevation of 500 metres in the Alentejo subregion of Portalegre, the property benefits from cooler and wetter conditions than the hot Alentejo plain." What The Critics Say
Winemaker notes on current 2022 vintage
"Broad and lifted aromatic expression, ranging from floral orange blossom and honeysuckle scents to pineapple, mango, and citrous notes. On the palate, the lively acidity provides a stimulating counterpoint to the ample, creamy fruit range, giving the wine exquisite elegance and balance."
91/100 Decanter, Sarah Ahmed (2018 vintage)
"A pungent, attractive and very Portuguese nose and palate, with a piquant, cheesy, salty green olive umami character. The varieties in this unoaked 50:50 blend play along nicely, the Verdelho fleshing out the mid-palate with succulent tropical star fruit and juicy nectarine, while the Arinto’s firmer green lemon flavour and grapefruity acidity lend persistence to the saline, fresh finish."
