2022 Shaky Bridge Pioneer Central Otago Pinot Noir
Grape
Pinot Noir
Its Origins
In 1973 Bill and Gill Grant first planted their Lake Dunstan property to Muller Thurgau and Chasselas vines. But some years later they heard of Gewurztraminer and Pinot Noir arriving in the country, and soon they were among the first to plant these now-staple Central Otago crops. Many of these vines were planted in sandy soils, which provide resistance to phylloxera, so certain of Shaky Bridge’s vineyards offer an extremely rare chance to taste Pinot Noir from gnarled old vines growing on their original rootstock. With a long-term commitment to quality and hands-on artisanship in both vineyard and winery, Shaky Bridge are one of the region’s most consistent achievers, making well-chosen varietals that are always vibrant but elegant and full of Central Otago character.
What The Critics Say
93/100 Wine Orbit, Sam Kim
"Charming and immediately appealing, the wine shows sweet cherry, warm spice, almond and rich floral aromas on the nose. The palate delivers ripe berry flavours with plump mouthfeel, well supported by silky texture and elegant tannins, finishing lingering and delectable. At its best: now to 2028. $30.00. www.shakybridge.co.nz. Sept 2023." Drink 2024 - 2028
