2022 Two Hands Brave Faces Barossa Grenache Shiraz Mataro
Grape
Mainly Grenache, with Mataro (Mouvedre) and Shiraz
Its Origins
Two Hands Wines was founded in early 1999 by Michael Twelftree and Richard Mintz. The original aim shared by Michael and Richard was to make the best possible Shiraz-based wines from prized Shiraz growing regions throughout Australia. Their intention was, and still is, to showcase the diversity of Australian Shiraz by highlighting regional characteristics and allowing the fruit to be the primary feature of the wines. Two Hands refers to the very personable approach taken with each parcel of grapes, no matter how big or small. The wines are carefully guided through the viticulture and winemaking process by Michael Twelftree.
What The Critics Say
92/100 Halliday's Wine Companion, Dave Brookes
"A blend of grenache/mourvèdre/shiraz (20% whole bunches in the grenache), aged for six months in a combination of new and older French oak puncheons and hogsheads. Spicy and perfumed with lifted red cherry and dark plum fruits with a wash of raspberry. Hints of Asian five-spice, gingerbread, pepper, violets, musk, dried cranberries and roasting meats. There is a nice sweet plum/sour cherry fulcrum and tension and a meaty, exotic edge with a chalky tannin grip and a lacy line of acidity. Good drinking!"
91/100 Vinous, Angus Hughson
"Weighing in at a welcome 13.8% alcohol, it's a graceful wine offering generous aromas of red licorice, new leather, and roast meats with a twist of pepper. The palate is beautifully pitched, with ample flavor entrenched in sandy tannins drawing out a lengthy, hearty finish. With great value, it promises to age surprisingly well for its price point."
