2022 Valli Bendigo Vineyard Pinot Noir

96 Points Bob Campbell MW
In stock
Another wonderful sub-regional Pinot From Grant Taylor. The Bendigo captures the properties of this relatively warm area, where the style tends toward a more generous depth of ripeness and texture. Offering real satisfaction when young, this very complete Central Otago Pinot will also age for a good while in cellar. Top stuff!

Its Origins

Valli is the personal vocation of pioneering Otago winemaker, Grant Taylor. Grant’s name is synonymous with Otago Pinot Noir. He has been crafting wines in the region since 1993 when there were only 20 hectares planted - today there are over 1700. Grant’s accomplishments are well known in the wine world and he is credited with winning the Best Pinot Noir Trophy at a major International Wine Competition in London an unprecedented four times – a feat achieved by no other winemaker in the world. During the past 19 years he has made the first wines for a number of iconic Otago wineries, but now the serious focus is on his own creation, Valli. Established in 1998 and named after his Great-Great Grandfather, Giuseppe Valli, who immigrated to New Zealand from and Italian winemaking background, Grant founded Valli with the aim of creating true representations of Otago’s subregions with unflinching intensity and purity.

What The Critics Say

96/100 Bob Campbell MW

"Ripe, concentrated wine with cassis, blackberry, violet, dark chocolate and spicy oak underpinned with vibrant acidity. It's a wine with heft, obvious power and the ability to age gracefully. 15 NOV 2023." Drink 2023 - 2033

"The 2022 Bendigo Vineyard Pinot Noir is lovely, every which way. The fruit is concentrated and supple, and it has liveliness and freshness from the acidity, but the tannins bring that forth in the mouth as well. This is a beautifully shaped wine, more curved and flowing than static or straight. A wine of substance, it is also a wine that has restraint and space. It's skillfully handled and super impressive. 14% alcohol, sealed under screw cap." Drink 2023 - 2036

95/100 Raymond Chan Reviews, Candice Chow

"Moderately deep ruby-black, slightly lighter on the rim. The nose is plush with power, displaying aromas of black cherry, plum, sautee mushroom, warm spices and herbs. Medium-full bodied, aromas of black cherry and plum melded with red cherry, unfolding cinnamon, nutmeg, clove hints of floral, mushroom and thyme. The tannins are silky and ripe with firmness and juicy acidity, carrying warm spice throughout the palate and lending a plush, lengthy finish. This Bendigo Pinot Noir is harmonious and generous with flavours, showing power and spice on a structured mouthfeel. Match with spiced lamb and five-spice roast duck over the next 12+ years. Fruit from Lakefront Terrace fermented with 35% whole bunch, aged 11.5 months in French oak, 25% new oak. 14% alc. 19/20 pts (95 pts) Nov 2023 RRP $85 ." Drink 2023 - 2035+
