Its Origins

Reydan and Roger Weiss first fell in love with the beauty of Te Awanga when visiting from Germany in 2001. Together they envisaged owning a state-of-the-art winery, merging the traditional values of wine making with an innovative approach and contemporary style to produce exceptional wines to savour and enjoy. With the majestic elephant as their namesake and nestled against a backdrop of rolling hillsides, Elephant Hill spans over 25 hectares of vineyards producing classical, aromatics whites and world-class reds, helmed by winemaker Steve Skinner.

What The Critics Say

93/100 Wine Orbit, Sam Kim

"Delicate and restrained, the wine shows white flesh peach, lemon pith, crunchy apple and pomegranate notes with a hint of savoury nuance. The palate displays excellent focus and fine flow, delightfully framed by crisp acidity, finishing long and linear. At its best: now to 2026. $26.00. www.elephanthill.co.nz. July 2024." Drink 2024 - 2026

91/100 Cameron Douglas MS

"Plush, bright and fruity core with aromas then flavours of peach and strawberry, red cherry with a floral highlight. Crisp and dry with plenty of acidity, a touch of salinity and balanced even finish. A fine fruit tannin layer adds structure and length. Well made in a ready to drink style. Best from 2024 through end of summer 2026."

18+/20 Raymond Chan Reviews, Candice Chow

"Bright, even, pale salmon. It has a vibrant and savoury bouquet with aromas of red berry, salted plum, white floral and a touch of spice. Medium-bodied, aromas of red berry and salted plum melded with white floral, black pepper and cured meat. Zingy acidity flows on a savoury, silky thread, and subtle peppery spice lifts the crisp, salivating finish. Match with charcuteries and pulled lamb tacos over the next 2-3 years. 98% Syrah and 2% Viognier, fermented to 13% alc, aged in tank without oak. 18+/20 pts (91 pts) Jul 2024 RRP $26."
