2023 Felton Road MacMuir Pinot Noir
Grape
Pinot Noir
Its Origins
Felton Road is situated on warm, north facing slopes of glacial loess soils in Bannockburn, in the heart of Central Otago. It dates back to 1991 when Stewart Elms planted the Elms Vineyard on Felton Road. Blair Walter has been winemaker here since 1996, right from the start. The total vineyard area is now at 32 hectares. The modern gravity fed winery receives 100% estate grown fruit from its three vineyards that are all farmed biodynamically and are fully certified by Demeter. Minimal intervention in the winemaking with such practices as wild yeast, no fining or filtration, allow the unique vineyard characters to further express their considerable personality. Since the first vintage in 1997, Felton Road has acquired a formidable worldwide reputation.
What The Critics Say
97/100 Cameron Douglas MS (2021 vintage)
"After the primary scents of pinosity and seductive charms a sense of power, ripeness and youth prevails. Aromas of darker red berry fruits are mixed with soil and barrel spice scents, the synergy and complexities from fruit and site speaks volumes with a light smoky clay soil and raspberry plum aromas. Youthful, taut, ripe and new textures and flavours, medium+ acidity and core pinosity fruits that mirror the bouquet. Lengthy, complex and ready to lay in your wine cellar. Best drinking from 2026 through 2036+."
97/100 Bob Campbell MW (2022 vintage)
"Intense wine that is on the dark side with concentrated flavours that suggest black fruits, cacao powder, liquorice and anise supported by sweet, chewy tannins A wine of substance and of promise. Time will add new layers to an already tantalisingly complex wine."
