2024 Astrolabe Kekerengu Sauvignon Blanc

96 Points Cameron Douglas MS
In stock
A serious Sauvignon Blanc from the limestone soils of the Kekerengu Coast. These vines are situated on the east coast to the south of Marlborough, where the climate and unique soil composition contributes to Astrolabe's finest and most impressive wines. Elegant and weighty, the Kekerengu Coast might be the best of their classy, European-inspired Sauvignons.

Its Origins

Astrolabe was created in 1996 by winemaker Simon Waghorn, the culmination of a career that began in South Australia in 1982. Winemaking later led Simon and his family from Te Kauwhata to Gisborne, where he specialised in Chardonnay, and eventually to Marlborough where in 1996 he and his wife Jane Forrest-Waghorn joined with old friends Paul Davenport and Sally Lewis to have a go at their own label…and so began Astrolabe. Today they work with a number of growers scattered all over Marlborough, from Awatere valley to the Kekerengu coast to the Wairau Valley, developing a wide portfolio of iconic wines that celebrate the varieties and terroirs of Marlborough.

What The Critics Say

96/100 Cameron Douglas MS

“A rather fantastic bouquet with layers of salinity and dried herb, spice and ripe citrus fruits. There’s also a peach and white pineapple fruit suggestions as well minerality and dried florals. On the palate, a dry wine with a textured mouthfeel from acidity, super fine fruit tannins and some lees, freshness and style. Then the fruit flavours return adding core flavours to a fine finish. Best drinking from 2024 through 2027+.”
