2023 Fritz Haag Brauneberger Juffer Riesling Kabinett

95 Points James Suckling
In stock
An absolute delight, this classic Mosel Riesling is refreshing and lighter-bodied with plenty of interest. That Mosel minerality comes through effortlessly with all kinds of delicate fruit and a whiff of sweetness that disappears on the finish. Gorgeous with or without food, this is a pedigree Kabinnett to drink now or cellar.

Its Origins

The Haag family has been in wine for just a little while - since 1605, to be precise - and over that time they have been instrumental in the development of Brauneberger, an area that has been recognised as one of the Mosel’s best since the sixth century. At the helm today is the youthful Oliver Haag, whose father Wilhelm (son of Fritz) became recognised as a Riesling world leader, awarded the deceptively simple title of Winegrower of the Year in 1994. Oliver himself has at his back a full oenological training as well as extensive experience with a number of leading Riesling producers. With results so superb they effectively define a modern classic style of Mosel Riesling, it seems clear that the Haag family’s future in wine may be as sure as it’s past.

What The Critics Say

95/100 James Suckling, Stuart Piggot

"So elegant and refined in spite of the generous peach fruit, this has a freshness like the first days of spring as the first green grass and flowers appear. What a precise balance of racy acidity and floral delicacy this has on the pristine, light-bodied palate. Very focused and pure finish. Drink or hold. Screw cap.”

18/20 Jancis Robinson MW

“Grosse Lage. Very pure, sprightly ‘mountain stream’ aromas. The sweetness is apparent but not dominant. Just the sort of wine that traditional Riesling lovers seek! Should have a long drinking window and it would be lovely with many spicy dishes or Thai food. Quite textural. Hint of apple juice – but very high-quality apple juice!" Drink 2024 - 2040

94/100 Vinous, Anne Krebiehl MW

"The 2023 Riesling Brauneberger Juer Kabinett needs a little time to shed its sulfur, but underneath lies ne citrus with supple grapefruit spice. The palate is sweet and light, serene with bright lemon and vividly slender, focusing on a lemon core that runs deep and long." Drink 2026 - 2056
