2023 Pieropan Soave Classico

Grape
Mostly Garganega with a small portion of Trebbiano di Soave
Its Origins
The four generations of Pieropan family craft a glorious, compelling bottle of Soave Classico DOC in this entry level offering. Like a finely tuned watch, Leonildo Pieropan styles it with great varietal character, allowing the terroir to show without oak treatment. The Garganegra grapes are sourced from the warm limestone hillsides surrounding the village of Soave, in the north-east province of Verona, Italy. Influenced by the mists coming off of the Po River to the west, this thicker skinned and later ripening varietal is blended with the more delicate and neutral Trebbiano di Soave grape. With limited yields, the compelling aromas of honeydew melon, lemon, green apple (not Granny Smith), yellow flowers, almonds and marzipan. The less fertile decomposed volcanic rock on the hillsides of the Soave Classico region gives way to minerality, almost steeliness on the palate. Brilliant, top notch European white wine.
What The Critics Say
94/100 Kerin O'Keefe
"Always fantastic and one of the greatest values in the Italian wine world, the 2023 Pieropan Soave Classico doesn’t disappoint, starting with its heady fragrance of white spring flower, lychee, summer orchard fruit and botanical herb. Smooth and delicious, the bright palate delivers ripe Bartlett pear, white peach, lemon drop and hints of tropical fruit alongside dollops of vanilla before closing on a saline tang. Abv: 12.5% Kerin O’Keefe October 2024." Drink
93/100 Wine Enthusiast, Jeff Porter
"Every year Pieropan captures the soul of Soave, Garganega and the vintage in such a pristine way that it keeps us in awe. This vintage shines with aromas of Fuji pears, Anjou apples, lemon blossom and flint. The palate is crisp with green apple skin and lemon zest flavors that give way to toasted almonds, acacia honey and a minerality so deep that you might as well be in a quarry. Drink now–2040."
