A wonderful dessert wine from legends of North Canterbury, Pegasus Bay. The Finale is a classic blend of white Bordeaux grapes Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon, which are ripened with botrytis to produce a phenomenally lush and rich-textured, Sauterne-like style of sweet wine. Amazing with sweet desserts and intense cheeses, the Finale is a must for the table or the cellar.

Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon

Its Origins

Located in arguably New Zealand's most exciting wine region of North Canterbury (more specifically, Waipara), albeit sparsely scattered with wine estates it is at the forefront of interesting and unique wines in NZ. This is due in part to a fabulous free-draining, well protected terroir. Pegasus Bay is run by the Donaldson family who were pioneers in the region and have been involved with local grape growing and winemaking since the 1970's. The whole family are involved in the process from grape to bottle, and a deep respect for the land, with a long term view towards vine and soil health typifies the Donaldson Family's approach to grape growing. Pegasus Bay is an accredited member of the NZWG sustainable viticulture program and are firm believers of using natural methods to combat pests and diseases rather than the application of unnecessary pesticides and herbicides.

What The Critics Say

96/100 Bob Campbell MW

"Noble sweet white blend made in the style of Sauternes. Very luscious without being cloying. Plenty of honeyed botrytis influence with vanilla, ginger, bush honey and quince characters. A wonderful dessert wine."

94/100 Cameron Douglas MS

"This really is a delicious wine, exotic and fruity, aromas of orange and cape gooseberry, the signature of Sauvignon Blanc offers sweet bell-pepper and mango, pineapple and preserved citrus peel. The Semillon deliver s a grapefruit and hay quality, honey and ginger. Deliciously sweet as the wine touches the palate, exotic and fruity, waxy and fresh. High acidity easily counterbalances the residual sweet (182 gpl), there’s a silky creamy texture and lengthy finish. Best drinking from 2024 through 2034+."

5 Stars Michael Cooper

"The 2021 vintage is light gold and honey- sweet. Estate-grown in North Canterbury and made in the classic Sauternes style, it was matured for a year in French oak barriques. Already lovely, it is mouthfilling, rich and sweetly seductive, with a slightly oily texture and concentrated, peachy, gently honeyed aromas and flavours, complex and smooth."
