2023 Dog Point Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc

Grape
Sauvignon Blanc
Its Origins
Dog Point Vineyard combines the considerable winegrowing experience of Ivan Sutherland and James Healy, the former chief viticulturalist and head winemaker at Cloudy Bay. After leaving Cloudy Bay, Ivan and James began making wines from Sutherland's own vineyards, which were planted in the 70's and 80's. Additional fruit is sourced from selected vineyard plantings dating back to the late 1970's. The first vintage with the Dog Point label was 2004, using 2002 fruit. Over 200 hectares of vines are farmed, with sustainable/organic practices.
What The Critics Say

"Dog Point Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc 2024, Marlborough. An excellent bouquet and palate with scents and flavours of citrus and nettles, fresh sage and grapefruit, apple and a layer of green passionfruit fresh lychee nut. Crisp and dry with plenty of mouthfeel, saline qualities and freshness. Some time on lees adds to the texture and length. Delicious, fresh, balanced and well made. Best drinking from day of purchase through 2029."
94/100 The Real Review, Stephen Wong MW
"Distinctive reduction on the nose leads to quite a structured palate with layered complexity over a ripe core of apple. Young, tight and with very good concentration, this is classic, displaying lovely balance and length on the pure, precise finish where a touch of minerality emerges 30 Sep 2024." Drink 2024 - 2028
17.5/20 JancisRobinson.com, Julia Harding MW
"Rich aroma of fresh pea pod, smoky grapefruit and clementine. Initially showing a little less obvious smoky/flinty reduction than in some vintages though this character shows more as the wine opens in the glass. Aromatic on the palate, too, with green fruits, clementine and fresh herbs and a mouth-watering salty aftertaste. Masses of acid tension to balance the ripe fruit, long smoky/flinty aftertaste. Needs another 6 months in bottle at least and my drink dates may be over-cautious. This is a decisive style of NZ SB but it is head and shoulders above the other 2024s in this line up, not just in complexity but also in depth of fruit. -- Full screwcapped bottle 1,308 g. Grown on silty-clay loams, some parcels with gravels interspersed, in the Wairau Valley. A very dry year that broke the drought record that has stood for 94 years. Hand-picked and whole-bunch pressing of fruit prior to cold settling then fermentation. 85% of this wine is fermented using indigenous yeasts. The wine is aged for 4 months in stainless-steel tanks then bottled without fining. TA 8 g/l, pH 3. Certified organic (BioGro). (JH)." Drink 2024 - 2029
