A lovely wine from an organic Central Otago producer, Carrick. The estate's longstanding ethos of organic viticulture and winemaking has allowed them to strike out with a beautiful label or two of natural wine. Made without sulfites or additives by strictly non-intervention methods, this wine offers a sort of sophisticated simplicity in which the bright juicy fruit doesn't feel too crafted, retaining a nice directness within its flow of linear acidity and fine tannins. Not rustic but a celebration of the natural elements in wine, Carrick's love letter ('Billet-Doux') is an adventurous and charming wine experience. No sulfites added.

Its Origins

Carrick is an integrated organic vineyard, winery, restaurant and cellar door in Bannockburn Central Otago. Known for their quality premium Pinot Noir, Carrick also grows and makes Chardonnay, Riesling, Pinot Gris and Sauvignon Blanc; wines noted for their fruit expression and clarity. Steve Green, the owner-manager of Carrick, the viticulturist, the winemaker and the chef brings understanding and experience to making fine wine and food. This pride is reflected in the care of the vineyard and environment – Carrick has a flock of free range hens, giant compost heaps and a community garden, all part of the Carrick philosophy.

What The Critics Say

93/100 Cameron Douglas MS

"An enticing earthy, soft red fruit bouquet with aromas of poached doris plums and black currant, mushroom and brown baking spices. There’s purity and complexity. Fine tannins and a soft acid line touch the palate first, on the 3rd sip the acid line increases to showcase the plum and berry fruit flavours suggested in the bouquet. Plush and new, fine and refreshing, natural and varietal, well made and still developing. Best left in cellar till 2026 then tasted and enjoyed through 2030+."

93/100 The Real Review, Stephen Wong MW

"Dark crimson-violet. Brooding, rather reticent nose of dusty plum, black cherry, violet and smoke. Unyielding, even with air. The palate is sleek but large-scaled; very concentrated and compact around a core of purple fruit. The tannins emerge on the back-palate, firm, grippy and dark. A restrained, oxidative note lingers, adding to its overall brooding nature. Everything is there, but currently hidden. Give it a year in the cellar to relax. Powerful, dark-fruited and sinewy 23 Apr 2024." Drink 2025 - 2034
