2021 Te Kano Central Otago Kin Pinot Noir
Grape
Pinot Noir
Its Origins
It all began when Californian born Rhonda Lloyd fell in love with a New Zealander, and then the country he called home. Never one to shy away from a challenge and with a mutual passion for the wines of Central Otago, the family stepped into the world of grape growing & winemaking and Te Kano was born. Te Kano means the seed in New Zealand’s indigenous Māori language. Very apt for a venture and family with a far-reaching vision. When the chance came to purchase a spectacular vineyard site on the famed Felton Road in Bannockburn, the Lloyds didn't hesitate. A few years later the discovery of the Northburn site and its breathtaking natural beauty led to another vineyard project full of potential. This site had endured much by the hands of man. Sluiced by miners during the Otago gold rush and burned for farming, Northburn had been left barren, good for grapes but in need of care. A true estate brand through and through, Te Kano wines are grown on four sites across Central Otago, and a small vineyard in Waitaki, North Otago. With an exceptional team, their own winery, bottling line and cellar door, Te Kano can ensure an unwavering dedication to quality. From vineyard to glass.
What The Critics Say
93/100 Raymond Chan Reviews, Candice Chow
"Moderately deep crimson, lighter on the rim. The nose is delicate and pretty, with aromas of cranberry, red cherry and raspberry, along with herbs, sweet floral and subtle spices. Medium-bodied, aromas of cranberry, red cherry and raspberry entwined with thyme, basil, black pepper, cinnamon and dried hibiscus. Supple, velvety tannins lightly frame the creamy mouthfeel; lacy acidity embraces the delicate fruit and floral and lingers to a harmonious closing. An approachable expression exhibits poise and dainty aromatics. Match with pork or poultry over the next 3 years. Fermented to 14% alc. 18.5/20 pts (93 pts) Aug 2024 RRP $30.99." Drink 2024 - 2027
93/100 Wine Orbit, Sam Kim
"Delightfully ripe and immediately enticing, the wine shows dark cherry, game, thyme, toasted almond and fragrant spice aromas on the nose. The palate is equally satisfying with supple texture backed by finely infused tannins, finishing splendidly long and delectable. At its best: now to 2029. $31.00. www.tekanoestate.com. Aug 2024." 92+/100 Cameron Douglas MS
"A lighter weighted wine with a core of pinosity and generosity, flavours of red berries then some plum and raspberry scents. Fine tannins and acidity secure a decent structure ushering in flavours of berries and plum to reflect the bouquet. Balanced and well made, a wine for immediate drinking as well as some ageing potential. Best drinking from day of purchase through 2030+. Or cellar through 2027 then continue drinking."
