The recently renewed terraces are located at 450 metres above sea level in Panzano, but unlike Fontodi's Vigna del Sorbo, which is dominated by Galestro, the soil here is calcareous Alberese. Deep in color, this sumptuous red shows both power and finesse, packed with blackberry, black currant, violet, iron and spice flavors. "The Fontodi 2020 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Terrazze San Leonlino (a certified organic wine) is a new addition to this exciting portfolio, now in its second vintage. With fruit from the upper part of the Conca d'Oro of Panzano near the small chapel of the same name. Dark ruby red colour. Hearty nose of fine black tea, ripe cherries, as well as some dark chocolate, hazelnut, rich savouriness on the finish, earthy. Juicy on the palate, with finely meshed, salty tannins, showing beautiful freshness and elegance despite its 15%, long, pure, like a block. Only 5,000 bottles were made." Drink 2023 - 2040

“The first year was in barrel, the second in cask. 20% new oak. This is just below the old church at 400 m. Albarese provides freshness, but there’s also schist in this vineyard, which is on terraces. This has beautiful fruit with red cherries, black cherries and fine structure. Weight and intense with beautiful fruit, showing fine black fruits with lovely purity. Expressive with sweet fruit, some chalky mineral character, and fine but firm tannins on the finish. This has such purity and balance.”
