Its Origins
The Ogier family have been established growers in Ampuis for over seven generations, but it was only in the 1980s that they began vinifying their own grapes. Stéphane joined the family estate in 1997, working alongside his father Michel, before taking over in 2003. Heralded by some as the face of the Northern Rhône’s new generation, he continues to go from strength to strength. His magnificent new winery allows him to vinify by parcel – a fundamental principle for his project and long-term vision. There is no flight toward volume and anonymity; quite the contrary, and it is exciting indeed. Stéphane studied in Beaune, and he brings this Burgundian approach to terroir to the region. He works with multiple lieux-dits, both in and out of the appellation, vinifying each separately and using oak sparingly to allow the particularities of each to show. His single-vineyard Côte-Rôties are some of the hardest, most expensive bottles to find in the Northern Rhone. (BBR).

"It comes from two family-owned vineyards: one in Plan de Dieu, bringing power and richness, one at higher altitude in Visan, contributing freshness and structure. “Here, I want to make a Côtes du Rhône that is a bit serious. But I also want something fresh, that has easy charm,” Stéphane told us. A juicy, aromatic and fresh blend of 60% grenache and 40% syrah. The nose shows notes of dark cherries, cassis, black pepper and dried thyme. Medium-bodied with fine tannins. Juicy and well-driven with blue fruit at the center and a spicy finish. "Lovely spicy nose – crushed red fruits, juicy and sappy. The palate is rounded and has some firm tannins as well beneath. Textured and spicy and earthy as well with some graphite. Ripe and voluminous. Still needs time. Grenache, Syrah. (AC)." Drink 2025 -2032
