2021 Frontonio Supersonico

Grape
Garnacha (Grenache)
Its Origins
"Bodegas Frontonio is the personal project of young gun Fernando Mora MW, hailing from the Valdejalón appellation (technically an IGP, not a DO) of Aragón. These scintillating wines are some of the very best being made today east of Rioja and west of Conca, and they’re already garnering effusive praise from both Luis Gutiérrez and Jancis Robinson. Best of all, prices are very fair for the high quality—and the quality begins in the vineyard: Mora and his team own fifty hectares of beautiful old bushvines in rocky clay-limestone selected for high altitude and north-facing exposition to emphasize freshness. And although this is Garnacha country (Aragón, in fact, is thought to be the birthplace of Garnacha), the whites are every bit as fascinating and delicious as the red." Skurnik Wines
What The Critics Say
94+/100 RobertParker.com, Luis Gutierrez
"Tasted next to the 2020, the 2021 Supersónico is a fresh Garnacha from an old vineyard at 1,030 meters in altitude on slate soils close to Calatayud that is now in conversion to organic farming. The grapes were handpicked on September 28, fermented with 100% full clusters in oak vats with indigenous yeasts, and it matured in used 500-liter barrels and 2,500-liter oak foudres. The wine finished at 13.5% alcohol and with mellow acidity and freshness. It's subtle and serious, with flowers and herbs and is elegant more than powerful. There's a lot more grip in the tannins here, more energy and a nice balance that should make it age nicely. 8,742 bottles were filled in March 2023." Drink 2024 - 2029
