A classy red from an accomplished Hawkes Bay winemaker. Zaria is the personal label of Bryce Edwards whose gorgeous, overdelivering reds have been enjoyed by many of us thanks to his day job as winemaker at Beach House. Packed with luscious fruit flavours and toasty spice, the Zaria Merlot is one heck of a wine for this incredibly modest price. Give it a try!

Its Origins

Winemaker Bryce Edwards natural and intuitive approach to winemaking marries the creative with the analytical and follows from education in viticulture and oenology, as well as seasons upon seasons honing his craft by working vintages in New Zealand (at storied wineries such as Te Awa and Sacred Hill), Napa Valley, Bordeaux, and Austria. Bryce’s winemaking philosophy revolves around cultivating an enjoyable drinking experience — creating wines that he and his wife love and sharing with the wider public. He takes a hands-off approach to his craft, intervening only as much as the grapes require to transform into delicious wine and, in a nod to ancient winemaking techniques, allowing nature to do the rest.

What The Critics Say

91/100 Cameron Douglas MS

“A light red and ruby core lead to a bouquet and palate of red plums and boysenberry. There are moments of sweet violet and soft clay soil scents. Tannins are fine adding a lovely mouthfeel, acidity adds crunch and a youthful quality, then the fruit flavours return with a freshness and lift. A youthful wine still with a nice vibrato and palate weight. Best drinking from mid to late 2024 through 2029."
