2023 Saintayme Saint-Emilion En Primeur
En Primeur product: order now for arrival mid 2026. A plump and rich Merlot from Saint Emilion, this wine offers serious aging potential for the price. Quality vineyards have been spotted and purchased by the owner of the Pomerol legend, Chateau L'Eglise Clinet. The result is a satisfying wine that bursts with black and red fruits and a deep and spicy aspect. Drink now or cellar a while. Unlike other retailers (who charge a second payment on arrival), our En Primeur prices are the total and final landed cost, including GST. With the changing economic situation and foreign exchange risk, we do this to ensure you have complete certainty over what you will pay.

Its Origins
Saintayme in St. Emilion is the property of Denis Durantou, best known for his famous Pomerol estate, Chateau L’Eglise Clinet. Durantou has expanded his holdings in the Right Bank over the past years to include not only Saintayme, but two estates in Lalande de Pomerol, Chateau Cruzelles and Chateau La Chenade, as well as Montlandrie in the Cotes de Bordeaux appellation. The vineyard of Saintayme is located in the increasingly popular commune of Saint Etienne de Lisse, the cooler soils of which are also home to Valandraud and Chateau Fleur Cardinale. The vines are in one single plot of limestone, clay and gravel that is planted to Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The average vine density is 6,000 vines per hectare, and the vines themselves are close to 35 years of age.
What The Critics Say
92-93/100 James Suckling
"Lovely freshness and balance with berries, orange peel and crushed stone. It's medium-bodied with nice, round tannins. Pure merlot."
91-93/100 Vinous, Antonio Galloni
"The 2023 Saintayme, 100% Merlot, is a deep, serious wine. There's a real core of inner strength here. Dark red fruit, cedar, spice and dried flowers open with some coaxing, but the 2023 impresses most with its overall poise. Pretty floral overtones add brightness. The 2023 is a very fine Saintayme." Drink 2028 - 2038
92/100 Jane Anson
"Medium intensity ruby, austere tannins on the opening, this has lemongrass and slate, juicy raspberry and grilled spice notes, slow and steady unrolling through the palate. Plenty to love."
