A great discount on this trophy winner! Only $20 something for the "Best NZ Pinot Noir" at the prestigous IWC 2024 (beating out such wines as Coal Pit, Valli, Rockburn etc). The popular Brassknocker label is from the ridiculously well-awarded McArthur Ridge, and made by one of NZ’s leading Pinot winemakers Matt Connell. Matt has worked at Peregrine, Olssens, and for seven years as winemaker and manager at Akarua. The name Brassknocker comes from the glacial soils that form the exceptional terroir of the McArthur Ridge vineyards, where they also source the popular Southern Tor label. With juicy dark red fruit and a fine tannin structure, the Brassknocker Pinot is a knock out option at this discount price.

Its Origins

McArthur Ridge website: "Nestled within the picturesque Alexandra Valley, our vineyard stands as a testament to our unwavering commitment to crafting exceptional wines that embody the essence of this captivating region. With roots tracing back to the late 1800s, we have nurtured a profound connection to this special place. We firmly believe that great wines are born from a deep understanding of the land and an unwavering commitment to showcasing its unique character. Our vineyards, perched upon an elevated plateau and planted across gentle northern slopes, bask in the warmth of the Central Otago sun. The Brassknocker soils, coupled with the pure glacial-fed waters that nourish our vines, bestow upon our wines a distinct sense of place—a true reflection of our terroir.

What The Critics Say

96/100 and Trophy for Best NZ Pinot Noir, IWC 2024

"This is a beautifully supple, pretty expression of Central Otago Pinot Noir, showing silky black cherry fruit with nice density and some fresh green hints. So Expressive."

94/100 Bob Campbell MW

"Bright, elegant pinot noir with black cherry, floral/rose petal, vanilla, and spice supported by fine-grained acidity that gives the wine (there's no other way to describe this) a cooling effect in the same way that silk or satin can feel cool to the touch. Unique and distinctive wine. 30 NOV 2023." Drink 2023 - 2030
