Its Origins

The Linke family first planted grapes in the Barossa in the 1930s and for the past 30 years have have supplied premium fruit for St Hallett and Langmeil since 1996. This is their private label taking fruit from the famed Stonewell Block vineyard. The Linke family are a 5th generation Barossa German immigrants who started as farmers upon settlement. Now 3rd generation grape growers, Ted Linke having first purchased their ‘Stonewell Block’ in the 1930’s planting the families’ first vines. Since then Barry Linke has carried on the good work as well as expanding vineyard holdings by purchasing the ‘Dorrien Block’ in 1988. Now a total of 75 acres with the majority of production in Shiraz naturally. In 2000 Scott Linke joined the family business straight from school. In 2002 Scott decided to take a small parcel of fruit being just 2 barrels and so ‘Linke’ was born. The family has supplied premium parcels of fruit to St Hallets for just on 30 years and to Langmeil since they began in 1996.

What The Critics Say

95/100 Wine Orbit, Sam Kim

"Powerful and opulent, the wine shows blackberry, vanillin oak, toasted spice, tapenade and cedary oak characters on the nose. The concentrated palate displays outstanding depth and density, combined with plush texture and beautifully melded tannins, finishing delectable and satisfying. At its best: now to 2036. $23.00. NZ Distribtor: Niche Wines. March 2024." Drink 2024 - 2036

96/100 Nicks Wine Merchants, Melbourne (2016 vintage)

"Impenetrable inky black core with a deep dark red black hue. Wafting from the glass are heady black cherry, ripe blackberry, liquorice and dark chocolate aromas with vanillin oak, faint dried raisin and spicy mocha notes in hot pursuit. Prodigiously rich, decadent and voluptuously textured, flavours of ripe blackberry, liquorice and luscious black cherries body slam the palate. Vanillin oak, subtle mocha and spice underscoring the lavish volumes of fruit. Plush silky smooth tannins. Incredibly concentrated and powerful finishing very long with a sumptuous black fruited aftertaste."

Sue Courtney, wineoftheweek.com, September 2018 (2015 Vintage)

"Inky black red in the glass. Crushed chocolate biscuits, plum, cherry and savoury vanillin oak laced with mint fill the bouquet and there is all this and more in the velvet cloaked palate. This is a massive wine, a heady wine, an opulent wine with a smooth seamless flow, raisined cherry fruit, pepper, anise, nut chocolate, cedar and vanilla with a touch of mint adding to the bright lifted finish. Kapow!"
