2021 Callejo Flores de Callejo
Grape
Tempranillo
Its Origins
Rated by Tim Atkin MW as one of the 'First Growth' Estates of Ribera del Duero. Alongside such icons as Vega Sicilia and Dominio de Pingus. The Callejo family owns 60 hectares of low yielding Tempranillo vines (Tinto Fino as it is known in Ribera del Duero) ranging in age from 25-70 years. Felix Callejo uses grapes from its Estate only. The grapes are carefully selected and hand picked into small cases of 30 pounds. Carried in small quantities, there is no danger of having the grape skins break and sparking an undesired premature fermentation. The crates are taken directly to the winery, where they go through two selection tables, the second one selecting grape by grape and discarding any imperfect grapes.
What The Critics Say
90/100 James Suckling
"Fruity and slightly reductive now, with black cherries, grilled herbs and flowers. A juicy, fruit-forward Ribera del Duero with a medium body, rounded by fresh, creamy tannins. Tinto fino. Simple, but well balanced and unassuming. Drink now."
90/100 Tim Atkin MW
"Flores - flowers in Spanish - is suitably perfumed and juicy, using grapes from six parcels between 830 and 850 metres in Sotillo de la Ribera. Zesty and very lightly wooded, it's the kind of thing you'd be delighted to find chilled in a local bar, with bramble and raspberry fruit, bright acidity and supple tannins. Drink 2022-26"
