Its Origins
In 1886 Edoardo Seghesio left his family vineyards in Piedmont, Italy and arrived in America to begin a new life. He ended up in Sonoma County where the new wine industry was flourishing. In 1895, after a decade of experience with the climate and soils, Edoardo chose the western bench of Alexander Valley as his stake in the New World and planted his first vineyard to Zinfandel, a very common wine grown by Italian immigrants as it resembled the soft, fruit-driven wines of home. After a rough time during the 20th century due to Prohibition, the estate is now run by winemaker Ted Seghesio, and has expanded to include vineyards in the Russian River Valley, Dry Creek Valley, San Lorenzo and elsewhere in the Alexander Valley

While it takes on an edge of astringency at the finish, its tannins are not out of bounds and afford it the spine and the structure needed for aging, and service with the richer foods for which it is made will make its minor, last-minute heat next to unnoticeable."
