2023 Forrest Chenin Blanc

A great price on this classic-styled Chenin from the legend John Forrest. This gorgeous fruit was harvested at night before fermentation in special large format wood cuvees. This approach softens the edges of the fruit expression and accentuates the grape's yeasty lanoline complexities. Such a charming and vibrant white, the Forrest is a must-try for local Chenin lovers!

Its Origins

Forrest wines was started in 1988 by doctors John and Brigid Forrest, focused on planting in Marlborough’s Renwick but including some expansion to joint venture Cornerstone in Hawkes Bay’s Gimblett Gravels. Though Brigid is a medical rather than scientific doctor, she was and is equally involved in the envisioning and running of this hands-on operation. Nonetheless, John’s immense energy and former doctorate in molecular biochemistry has made him not only one of the most well-known but technically expert of New Zealand winemakers. Experimental too, as today the sprawling Forrest range explores many terroirs, mainly in Marlborough, while taking credit in the ‘Doctor’s’ range for early ventures into new varieties such as Arneis and Gruner Veltliner, as well as successful naturally low alcohol styles of Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc.

What The Critics Say

93/100 Cameron Douglas MS

"A delicious wine with flavours of fresh and baked apples, pear and white floral highlights. Crisp and dry as the wine touches the palate, plenty of acidity with a fine saline quality, and moderate weight. There’s a touch of fine lees layering in some texture with core fruit flavours adding weight and mid-palate intensity. Best drinking from 2024 through 2030."
