Its Origins

Forrest wines was started in 1988 by doctors John and Brigid Forrest, focused on planting in Marlborough’s Renwick but including some expansion to joint venture Cornerstone in Hawkes Bay’s Gimblett Gravels. Though Brigid is a medical rather than scientific doctor, she was and is equally involved in the envisioning and running of this hands-on operation. Nonetheless, John’s immense energy and former doctorate in molecular biochemistry has made him not only one of the most well-known but technically expert of New Zealand winemakers. Experimental too, as today the sprawling Forrest range explores many terroirs, mainly in Marlborough, while taking credit in the ‘Doctor’s’ range for early ventures into new varieties such as Arneis and Gruner Veltliner, as well as successful naturally low alcohol styles of Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc.

"I had to try this wine over 5 days, it is that delicious. Day 1 - crisp, taut, varietal and closed. Day 2 - still crisp and taut with burgeoning flavours of fresh and baked apples, a spiced pear quality and backbone of acidity. Day 3- A wine with personality and style, great acid line and flavours that melt into the structure, some lees qualities and a raw silk mouth mouthfeel. Day 4 - perfectly balanced and ready to drink with an exacting flavour profile that echoes and reflects the past 3 days trial and sits nicely on the palate. Day 5 - beginning to wane with the acidity curbed and intensity of flavours beginning to shadow. In short a lovely wine for you to enjoy over the next 5 to 10 years (and more)."
