2022 Planeta Cometa Fiano
Grape
Fiano
Its Origins
"Diego Planeta, along with Giacomo Rallo of Donnfugata and Lucio Tasca d’Almerita, is one of the three founding fathers of the “Sicilian wine renaissance” sparked 10 to 15 years ago. Cousins Francesca, Santi and Alessio Planeta hold the reigns to the estate today and have developed one of the most innovative and modern wine entities in Italy (they are among the most “liked” wineries on Facebook). The Planeta family boasts a gifted hand in marketing and their hard work has only helped to develop the “Sicily” brand within the many foreign markets they penetrate." Parker's Wine Advocate, Monica Larner
What The Critics Say
92/100 James Suckling
"Attractive aromas of white nectarines, sliced lemons, orchid blossom and crushed stones. Tangy and a little phenolic with a medium body and crunchy acidity. Clean and fresh with a delicacy to its texture. From organically grown grapes. Drink now."
94/100 Parker's Wine Advocate, Monica Larner (2019 vintage)
"A terrific production of 60,000 bottles, the Planeta 2019 Sicilia Menfi Cometa is an icon wine of Sicily and deservedly so. Fiano is simply radiant and lusciously rich in this medium-bodied expression. The 2019 vintage shaped nicely concentrated and flavorful fruit of apricot, honey and baked pear. Only 10% of the wine sees oak, but that's more than enough to render the extra depth and soft textural richness that puts this wine a cut above the other more one-dimensional interpretations of this indigenous Italian grape."
