2022 Forrest Pinot Gris
Grape
Pinot Gris
Its Origins
Forrest wines was started in 1988 by doctors John and Brigid Forrest, focused on planting in Marlborough’s Renwick but including some expansion to joint venture Cornerstone in Hawkes Bay’s Gimblett Gravels. Though Brigid is a medical rather than scientific doctor, she was and is equally involved in the envisioning and running of this hands-on operation. Nonetheless, John’s immense energy and former doctorate in molecular biochemistry has made him not only one of the most well-known but technically expert of New Zealand winemakers. Experimental too, as today the sprawling Forrest range explores many terroirs, mainly in Marlborough, while taking credit in the ‘Doctor’s’ range for early ventures into new varieties such as Arneis and Gruner Veltliner, as well as successful naturally low alcohol styles of Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc.
What The Critics Say
89/100 Decanter, James Button
"Pinot Gris has become something of a New Zealand speciality over the last decade or so, and this waxy, aromatic and textured example shows just how delicious and food-friendly the wines can be. It combines soft notes of flowers, honeyed apple and stone fruits with a viscous body and a persistent finish." Drink 2024 - 2026
