Its Origins

Nelson is the sunniest viticultural region in New Zealand. Relatively isolated, it has never developed into large scale production but several wineries have established an excellent reputation for quality. Prime amongst these is Neudorf, created by pioneers Tim & Judy Finn back in the late 1970s. The winery buildings have developed steadily since 1980, and so has the reputation of this excellent producer specialising predominantly in chardonnay and pinot noir. Their flagship wines are designated by the subregion of Moutere. The Neudorf estate, lying on a mix of glacial outwash clay, now represents 12ha, though buys in fruit from a further 30ha (of managed vineyards). The viticulture is sustainable "lutte raisonnée" with organic practices being introduced since 2008. The wines are all made with minimal intervention; hand harvesting, wild yeast, low S02 and soft, supporting oak.

What The Critics Say

93/100 Cameron Douglas MS

"Very attractive bouquet filled with scents of fresh white nectarine and red apple flesh, there’s a fine lees mineral quality and very floral overall. A silky texture touches the palate first then warming alcohol and a refreshing acid line with a saline touch follows. Fruit flavours remain persistent with the acid line adding focus and mouthfeel. A delicious wine ready to drink from late 2023 or early 2024 through 2029." Drink 2023 - 2029
