In stock
A finely flavoured and structured majority Tempranillo from the middle of the Callejo range. This label is sourced from a selection of very high-altitude vineyards in the Sotillo de la Ribera, so it offers an especially bright-fruited and poised expression of the Callejo style. A Spanish red for almost every palate, the Parajes is a must-try and delicious addition to the range.
$44.99 in mixed 6+ or $49.99 per bottle

Grape

In 2021 it is mainly Tempranillo with a little Garnacha and Albillo Mayor

Its Origins

Rated by Tim Atkin MW as one of the 'First Growth' Estates of Ribera del Duero. Alongside such icons as Vega Sicilia and Dominio de Pingus. The Callejo family owns 60 hectares of low yielding Tempranillo vines (Tinto Fino as it is known in Ribera del Duero) ranging in age from 25-70 years. Felix Callejo uses grapes from its Estate only. The grapes are carefully selected and hand picked into small cases of 30 pounds. Carried in small quantities, there is no danger of having the grape skins break and sparking an undesired premature fermentation. The crates are taken directly to the winery, where they go through two selection tables, the second one selecting grape by grape and discarding any imperfect grapes.

What The Critics Say

93/100 Tim Atkin MW

"A field blend of Tinto Fino, Garnacha and Albillo Mayor. Floral, racy, vibrant and energetic, it has very little wood and a core of bright plum and red cherry fruit."

92/100 James Suckling.com, Zekun Shuai

"Lifted nose with scented red berries, cherries and flowers. Some fruit tea and potpourri, too. Elegant and crunchy with a chalky, medium-bodied palate, showing good tension and texture. Drink now."

Winemaker Note 2021 vintage

"This wine represents a collection of landscapes located in the village of Sotillo de la Ribera, at altitudes between 855 and 930 m above sea level. They are loamy-clay soils, with limestone bottoms, very loose and poor soils, with great freshness due to the limestone and the altitude. FIELD BLEND of 87% Tinto Fino, 9% Garnacha, 4% Albillo Mayor, co-fermented with native yeasts in concrete tanks and rested in different containers, fudres, concrete and 500L barrels, to preserve the landscape of Sotillo de la Ribera”
