94 Points John Caro
In stock
A special Chardonnay from old vines in the village that gave the famous grape its name. Talmard name this cuvee "Tradition" because they select only the finest fruit of the oldest vines, planted in 1983 on limestone clays in the sunny Maconnais village of Chardonnay. The wonderful succulence of this fruit is captured in detail using stainless steel — like all their wines — so for just a few more dollars, this label offers the same delights with even more exceptional depth and nuance. The sheer quality for the price is amazing in this wine. Try it before it flies!

Its Origins

As top Burgundy prices skyrocket and the cheaper Macon gets increasing attention, Domaine Talmard have formed a reputation as one of Burgundy's greatest Chardonnay bargains. Less than an hour's drive south of Puligny Montrachet and near the town actually called Chardonnay, the Talmard family have farmed since the 17th Century with grandfather Joseph first planting grapes at Uchizy. In 1971 his son Paul decided to go it alone rather than supply the local wine co-op, and today Paul's daughter Mallory and husband Benjamin are the inspiration and winemakers behind Talmard. By intense focus on vineyard management, harvesting at perfect ripeness, and channeling even top fruit into these basic 'village' wines, Domaine Talmard wildly over-deliver on the Maconnais proposition - white Burgundies of extreme quality for value.
