2024 Squawking Magpie Chatterer Pinot Gris
Grape
Pinot Gris
Its Origins
Squawking Magpie Owner and Director Gavin Yortt planted the main Woodland’s vineyard in 1995, with further holdings in 2002 extending the focus on Hawkes Bay classic grapes such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah. They are members of Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand and maintain a strong focus on cellaring wines and a quality-driven (rather than brand-driven) market strategy, which begins with rigorous vineyard management. Though not shouting from every shelf, on quality-for-value Squawking Magpie wines are often among the best Hawkes Bay has to offer.
What The Critics Say
93/100 Cameron Douglas MS
"An excellent bouquet of ripe pomaceous fruits from pears to white peach, then scents of lees and natural fruit spice lift. Vibrant, crisp and dry as the wine touches the palate, there’s a lovely texture and brightness, flavours repeat with an extra mandarin peel quality, along with a touch of green tea. Balanced, well made and ready to drink from 2024 through 2027."
90/100 Bob Campbell MW
"Refreshing, gently luscious pinot gris with quince, honeysuckle, ripe pear and subtle spicy flavours. A hint of sweetness is balanced by refreshing acidity. Youthfui, appealing wine 03 Aug 2024." Drink 2024 - 2028
