2021 Massolino Langhe Nebbiolo
Grape
Nebbiolo
Its Origins
Massolino are among the foremost Barolo producers, with deep history in Serralunga d'Alba. Giovanni Massolino founded the estate in 1896 and was also the first to bring electricity to his village. Son Guiseppe and daughter Angela were likewise ahead of their time, in 1934 extending holdings in what are now regarded as some of Barolo's best crus - Margheria, Parafada and Vigna Rionda. Whilst channelling their tradition, Massolino also utilise the heavier clay soils of Serralunga to bring a satisfying breadth, density and structure to their Barolo’s - which, balanced against their extreme refinement and expressive clarity - make them almost incomparable for the price.
What The Critics Say
92/100 Decanter, Aldo Fiordelli
"From one of the leading producers in Serralunga, this is a Nebbiolo that's austere and challenging to begin with. Focused on spicy notes, smoky woodland and liquorice, with violet, wild strawberries and light hints of tar, it's initially dominated by the sandiness of the tannins before it unfolds in the glass to reveal rare depth for a Langhe. A bit rustic but full of character and detail." Drink 2024 - 2034
91/100 Vinous, Antonio Galloni
"The 2021 Langhe Nebbiolo is a gorgeous entry-level wine from Massolino. Crushed red berry fruit, blood orange, mint, cinnamon and a kick of orange peel all grace this exquisite, inviting wine. The 2021 spent a year in cask, longer than required for Barbaresco, for reference." Drink 2023 - 2029
