2000 Grahams Vintage Port

98 Points James Suckling
In stock
An exceptional Port that Wine Spectator called "simply stunning" and "top Port of the Vintage". This is a rare opportunity to buy a vintage Port that has entered its best drinking years. However, with this level of sheer depth and quality there is remarkable difficulty for critics in assessing its drinking period. Some say drink after 2020, at 20+ years of age - a great sign for those intending to cellar - while others saying drink before the same year, 2020 - a great sign for those who wish to enjoy it without delay. With extreme quality and investment from the legendary Symington family, this Graham's is simply top of the pile. Stocks are limited so grab this!

Its Origins

The story of two families across three centuries. For almost two hundred years W & J Graham’s has been an independent family business renowned for producing the finest Port wines. Graham’s has always been a pioneer. Graham's was one of the first Port companies to invest in its own vineyards in Portugal’s Douro Valley in 1890 and is now at the cutting edge of innovation in winemaking techniques. Today, five Symington cousins share responsibility for every aspect of the company and personally make the Graham’s wines. They too have been involved with Port and the Douro for many generations, with ancestry dating back to the mid-17th century. Graham’s owns five mountainous vineyards, which are located in different parts of the best wine-growing areas of the Douro region. Each property has the maximum ‘A’ grade classification. Much of the original wild flora has been left deliberately undisturbed amongst the vines on these estates to preserve the indigenous biodiversity, which Graham’s believes contributes to making wines with a more unique and powerful expression of this terroir.

What The Critics Say

98/100 Wine Spectator, James Suckling

"Graham is a shining example of an established Port house pushing the boat out to make even better wines through better viticulture and wine-making methodology. This is the greatest young Vintage Port from Graham I have ever tasted, and perhaps it will be better in the long term than the legendary 1948. It smells like freshly picked orchids, with loads of ripe, clean fruit and then turns full-bodied, medium-sweet and very powerful in the mouth with big velvety tannins. It lasts for minutes on your palate. There's great balance and class to this young Vintage port." (Tasted 2003) Drink after 2014

18.5/20 The Vine Magazine, Clive Coates MW

"Very good colour. Splendid nose. Real quality here. Concentrated and fruity. Elegant and complex. Lots of dimension. Full, very fine tannins. Excellent depth of fruit. Lots of grip. This has even more to it than the Fonseca. Excellent. From 2020." (Tasted 2002) Drink after 2020

18+?/20 Richard Mayson

"Deep, youthful opaque colour; lovely perfume and surprisingly open, very pure fruit; opulent, dense, very powerful, forceful tannins, big, ripe and very fine and rich. Keep at least ten years. The first Graham vintage to be made partially (36%) in robotic lagares." (Tasted 2010) Drink after 2020+
