Its Origins

Saint Clair Family Estate is owned by Neal and Judy Ibbotson, viticulture pioneers in Marlborough since 1978. Grapes were originally supplied to local wine companies; however a desire to extend the quality achieved in the vineyard through to the finished wine led to the establishment of Saint Clair Family Estate in 1994. The Saint Clair name originates from the vineyard property, first settled by the Sinclair family. Pioneer James Sinclair built one of the first homes in Blenheim and was closely associated with the early development of the town. Over time the name of the property reverted to the original Saint Clair. Saint Clair has developed six vineyards in different sites in Marlborough, including the Rapaura, Awatere, Waihopai and Omaka Valleys. Only superior fruit from the best locations for each individual variety is selected for the Saint Clair label.

What The Critics Say

93/100 Bob Campbell MW

"Medium-dry riesling with lime cordial, lemon curd, wildflower and oyster shell flavours. Punchy, mouth-watering wine with lively acid/sweet tension. Should develop well with bottle age although I like it fresh and vibrant." Drink 2024 - 2031

92/100 Cameron Douglas MS

"Aromas of apple and lime, orange peel and a stony mineral quality. Off-dry as the wine touches the palate, contrasting acid line and flavours that mirror the bouquet. There’s a just a tickle of spritz adding extra livilness to an already plush and satin textured palate with ahigh acid top-line. Well made and ready to drink from 2024 through 2030."

4.5 Stars and Top Ten Cuisine NZ and International Riesling Tasting 2022 (2020 vintage)

"Apricot and lemon zest with green tea aromas on the complex and aromatic nose of this example. The palate is juicy and mouthwatering with lime zest and rockmelon flavours present. The subtle sweetness is harmoniously balanced with taut acidity."
