2017 Roederer Champagne Vintage Rose

94 Points James Suckling
In stock
A refined yet sensuous Rose Champagne from one of the region's greatest names. Roederer specially planted new vineyards with a warmer, sunnier aspect so that Pinot Noir would ripen properly for the production of a top notch Rose. Against this they source exceptional crispness from Chardonnay that is grown, on the contrary, in a separate area and on a north-facing site. This combination produces a finely balanced and age-worthy wine, with succulent red fruits and florals detailed in a seriously refreshing and age-worthy structure. Drink now or age.

Its Origins

Louis Roederer, a wonderful family-owned Champagne house founded in 1776, has a tremendous reputation for quality. The Louis Roederer House has remained an independent, family-owned company and is now managed by Frédéric Rouzaud, who represents the seventh generation of the lineage. 80% of the firm's needs are supplied by their own, magnificent, 444 acres of vineyard holdings. Louis Roederer's Pinot Noir based non-vintage Brut Premier is powerful and richly-honeyed and is far superior to most other producers` vintage Champagnes. In 1876 Louis Roederer created the now famous Cristal, at the request of Alexander II. This once intensely sweet wine is now one of the most luscious, deeply flavoured champagnes available, with the '88, '89 and '90 among the greatest Cristals ever released.

What The Critics Say

94/100 James Suckling

"A seductive, balanced and silky champagne rosé with aromas of apricot skins, mirabelles and stones, together with a touch of baking spices. In control and well balanced, with an attractive texture. Harmonious with fine bubbles and a laser-focused finish. Drink or hold."

92/100 Vinous, Antonio Galloni

"The 2017 Rosé is bright and finely sculpted. Crushed red berries, grapefruit, chalk, mint and white pepper lend palpable energy throughout. This is an especially nervy edition of the Rosé. It will appeal most to readers who enjoy taut, vibrant Champagnes. The blend is 62% Pinot Noir (all from Cumières) and 38% Chardonnay (from Chouilly), with the energy of Cumières very much driving the blend. The Pinot came in on the early side, which was necessary to avoid rot. It is a fine effort in a vintage in which Roederer made just two vintage Champagnes, the Rosé and a Blanc de Blancs. Dosage is 8 grams per liter." Drink 2024 - 2032
