Legends of Brunello, Tues 8th July

Out of stock

Brunello di Montalcino is one of the finest and most famous wines in Italy. Made with 100% Sangiovese from around the beautiful town of Montalcino, in the Siena province of Tuscany. Tonight Regan will present wines from five of the very greatest estates in the region. Il Poggione, Le Chiuse, Canalicchio di Sopra, Poggio di Sotto, and the legendary Il Marronetto.

Don't miss the rare Rosso di Montalcino from Poggio di Sotto. This is the most expensive and greatest example of Rosso made by any estate in the region. Some of the other highlights will be the 2019 Riserva from Il Poggione's 'Vigna Paganelli' vineyard, and Canalicchio di Sopra's iconic Brunello Riserva 2019. It's been quite a few years since the quality has been good enough to release these special long aged Riserva's.

This is the second year we have had the Le Chiuse estate in New Zealand, and the first time we have opened any bottles for tasting. Owned by the famed Biondi Santi family since the late 18th century, Le Chiuse’s oldest grapes were used to make the legendary Biondi Santi Riservas.

We finish with two wines from Il Maronetto. We are extremely excited to have these in New Zealand for the first time. They are one of the absolute greatest estates of all in Montalcino, and John has been trying to secure an allocation for over a decade! Many rejections later it’s finally here. Monica Larner describes their legendary single vineyard: “Madonna delle Grazie is to Sangiovese, what the Chapel of St. Christopher on the hill of Hermitage is to Syrah.” At over $600 a bottle this is rarely, if ever, opened for tasting!

The lineup is bottle after bottle of incredible wines you might not ever try again. We will be tasting;

2020 Il Poggione Brunello di Montalcino ($95)
2019 Il Poggione Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 'Vigna Paganelli' ($165)
